Wind Telecomunicazioni Spa, established in 1997, has instigated radical changes in the mobile services offered in Italy, with the aim of establishing new market standards for the integration of telephone services, and the development of the Internet, as a global response to the communications needs of people and businesses. Wind is the third largest Italian mobile operator 21.1 million customers (December 2015) and the second largest Italian fixed line operator 2.8 million subscribers, of which 2.4 million direct customers.
From January 2006 Wind is also the first Italian Telco company to be compliant to the “Quality, Environment, Security and Social Responsibility System” – certified by the DNV, Det Norske Veritas. Wind is a part of the Vimpelcom group, one of the world’s leading integrated TLC operators, offering voice and data services using a series of mobile, traditional and broadband technology. Wind offers voice and data services in Italy in the consumer and business markets under the “WIND” and “INFOSTRADA” brands. The group involved in the R&D activities proposes new services that possibly leverage “disruptive” technologies both for Network and IT point of view. This requires continuously scouting business ideas and technologies and monitoring the IT, TLC, CE, Internet and Media markets. Ideas are developed through business modelling, product concept definition and proof-of-concept. This allows Wind to analyse the sustainability of new solutions from technical and economic perspective so as to have a complete vision of all opportunities.
